‘Kids Behind Bars’ wonders whether some can ever be set free

It’s almost an unwritten commandment that summer TV should be escapist — but there’s at least one docuseries worth your attention:

A&E’s “Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole” (airing Tuesday at 10:02 p.m.) asks challenging questions about the nature of justice for young offenders and whether they can ever be rehabilitated.

As “Kids” notes, there are over 2,000 inmates serving life sentences for crimes they committed when they were juveniles. A 2012 Supreme Court decision declared that life sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional, and their sentences continue to be reviewed across the country.
